World Wish Day!

It is World Wish Day for the Make-A-Wish Foundation!

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes everyday of the year, but today is a special day to commemorate the anniversary of the wish that inspired the creation of what is now one of the world's leading children’s charities.

I had the privilege of interning with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic last summer where I helped coordinate wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

I helped plan a variety of wishes. Including shopping sprees, room make-overs, trips to Disney World, and my favorite - trips to Washington D.C. to meet President Obama.

This picture is from a Wish Party that I was able to attend. Zoe wished for a lap top to play Dora the Explorer games on while she was receiving treatments in the hospital. She got a lap top and so much more thanks to the generous donations of many Make-A-Wish Foundation sponsors.

The smile on her face says it all.

You can find out how you can donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and more information about World Wish Day by clicking here.

Chillin with my slipper boots on...

I gave in.

I went to the doctor's office today.

I have strep throat. Uhhh... not again.

The doctor insisted that I get a shot right then and there in the you know what. Apparently, I needed medicine in my system ASAP.

I guess I shouldn't have waited four days to seek help.

Plus I got some huge horse pills to swallow for the next two weeks.

Jealous? I'm spending my first night off from school on the couch with my slipper boots on while all my friends are out celebrating their new found freedom.

I love it when...

My bookshelf goes from this...

To this...

Northwest has a textbook rental program. Students rent their textbooks for around $7 a credit hour. For a semester of books at Northwest, it usually costs around $90 as opposed to the $500-$600 dollars students spend at other universities.

The best part is this: a couple days before classes start your books are waiting for you at textbook services in a brown paper bag. Right author and right edition.

You are set for your first day of classes.

After finals, you take your books back to textbook services and drop them off.

You don't have to worry about selling them back to make a bit of money.

Simple. Easy. Best time and money saver.

Well…this concludes my blog posts for the school year, make sure to check back next year to see my final semester in action! If you want to continue to see my happenings you can visit my personal blog at www.angelawasko.blogspot.com

Happy Summer!

be.

Trying to be all three of these.

It's a bit hard though.

Feeling a bit under the weather (sore throat, ear ache, runny nose)

Lots of little things to do to wrap up the year.

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

One more final tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. and I am D-O-N-E...

at least for a week. Then my classes in May start.

Be Kind. Be Present. Be Focused.

New life motto.

study break?

Took a study break today and went to North Kansas City where Ashley and I met up with our friend Ashley who goes to school at University of Central Missouri.

We had soups and sandwiches at Panera, browsed around Charming Charlie's, grabbed FROZEN YOGURT at Yogurtini, and walked around Barnes and Noble.

Now, if you don't already know, I love self serve frozen yogurt. You may remember this post. Basically, I became obsessed with this trend last summer when I lived in DC.

Fixed my craving. For awhile...

Love my 2 Ashley's. Time goes by so fast when we are together.

Hoppy Easter!

Enjoyed a nice relaxing weekend at home, now it's time to hit the books and ace my finals!

easter eggs.

My sisters and my mom might not have been as excited as I was to dye Easter eggs.

Jessica outwardly admitted that she didn't want to participate.

After she saw a few of my creations she changed her mind.

This year we had a "Glitter Easter Egg Kit."

It included a 'magic glitter case' aka as a piece of card stock that you put a plastic bag in and shake the glitter around.

We didn't put glitter on all the eggs, just a few.
Here is a close up of the glitter eggs.

A trip home wouldn't be complete of course without a little bit of 'farm work.'

All three Wasko sisters were found this morning in work boots and old clothes helping dad worm the baby lambs in the sheep shed.

Can't say I hated it, they are cute little lambs.

"But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our sins; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed." -Isaiah 53:5

trip down memory lane.

The Wasko sisters are home for the weekend to celebrate Easter.

Last night I went to my old middle school gym to see a friend's band play.

My 8th grade year, my middle school building was condemned because bricks began falling off the front.

I have not stepped foot in that gym since the day the news cameras, building inspectors, and reporters from across Iowa were gathered in the gym with us students.

I remember my middle school principal telling us students firmly that we had one and only one trip up to our locker to grab everything we owned.

The rest of the school year was spent in itty bitty classrooms in the high school building.

When I walked into the gym last night I was taken over by emotions. The stage where I was the lead character in my 7th grade play was set-up with the band's instruments.

The gym floor where we used to play knockout was set up with chairs.

The locker room where we would "hide" when we didn't want to go to band still smelt the same.

The "believe in yourself banner" was still hanging near the door that lead to the band room and vocal room.

The "Character Counts Pillars" were still painted on the wall next to the FCS room where I learned some basic cooking recipes.

It seems as if it was such a long time ago, but realistically it wasn't.

People always tell me that as you get older times goes by faster.

I couldn't agree more.

The band's performance last night was excellent. It was a Good Friday celebration so everything was tied to Christianity.

As I sat there and watched the band play, I also reminisced about how I used to have the biggest crush on Jon Maley (the boy playing the banjo)

I now have a crush on the drummer boy...

Presentation to the Federal Reserve Bank

Isn't this room beautiful...

large...

intimidating...

It is the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Boardroom. My advanced advertising class got to present our advertising campaign in this room to about ten members from the bank, a few advertising professionals, and the president of my university.

Our client, The Money Museum (operated by the Federal Reserve Bank) told us that they wanted to increase visitors to the museum.

This class is run similar to an advertising agency and less like a class. We were responsible for coming up with two different advertising campaigns to present to them.

We nailed it.

Was this class stressful?

Yes.

Was this one of the most valuable classes I have taken at Northwest?

Absolutely.

Do I get to put this experience on my resume?

You betcha.

Did we celebrate after?

Heck yes.

Success?

Yes!

Need I say more?

The smiles on the faces in the pictures below explain it all.

President Jasinski and First Lady Denise proudly wearing their TOMS with Blake Mycoskie.

I love my SAC family.

Couldn't have done it without my wonderful team.

Thank you to each and every one of you!

SUCCESS! So happy and blessed right now I am at a loss for words!

Sister Visits!

My baby sister and her roommates traveled from Iowa City to visit me this weekend and go to The Goo Goo Dolls concert! They walked in the door a little before 6 p.m. I fed them quick and rushed off to the concert. It was such a great show and it was fun to see so many of my friends that I haven't hung out with the past couple weeks.

You will have to wait to find out how what we did the majority of Saturday... :)

Saturday night we got all dolled up and headed over to a friends house for a bit and then to The Outback for some dancing. My favorite memory would be watching Jessica trying to walk at the end of the night. She decided to wear a brand new pair of heels.

Bad decision.

I should have filmed her, it was hilarious.

Jessica's roommates are such sweeties. Especially for putting up with her sarcasm, endless singing, and excessive change of wardrobe.

We love you Jess. :)

This morning we went to Palm Sunday Mass and then had brunch together.

It was hard to see them leave. I sat on the couch all by myself after they left feeling extremly sad. Sometimes I regret not going to University of Iowa. I miss my sisters and wish I could see them more often. I'm the black sheep of the family who decided to go to Missouri.

Anywho...can't change that decision now.

Tomorrow is the big day! Final SAC Lecture. Whoooo! Excited!

Ready to wrap up the year with a bang!

I want to leave you with a verse that stood out to me in the Passion of Christ today at mass.

And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. -Matthew 27:30-31

How blessed are we to have a Savior who died on the cross for us.

I almost forgot...

I almost forgot to blog about this photo until I was sitting in class today and my teacher pulled up the Northwest Website....and there I was.

If you visit my school's website, Northwest Missouri State University, you will eventually see me pass by on the homepage.

If you click on the picture, there is an article about my Super Bowl experience. Ch ch ch check it out here!

Just got back from watching my friend, Bryce Davis, perform in his show choir dress rehearsal. It was excellent! He has such a beautiful voice.

My sister Jessica and her two roommates Lauren and Maddie are coming tomorrow to visit! Tomorrow night at this time we will be rocking out to The Goo Goo Dolls!

Promoting TOMS

Clever shirts, huh?

To help promote the upcoming TOMS lecture, we had these t-shirts made for people who currently own a pair of TOMS.

The idea was to designate a day (TOMS Thursdays) when students would wear their (free) t-shirts and their TOMS to raise awareness about the one for one movement. This Thursday will actually be the third TOMS Thursday.

My extremely talent friend, Tim Welsh, put this promo video together. When I first watched it, I cried. I never thought it would actually turn out as nice as it did. I can't thank him enough. Check it out. (If it says an error ocurred, click in the bottom right hand corner where it says watch on YouTube)

I have another amazing friend, Ty Stevens, who was able to land a full page article in our school newspaper about 'One Day Without Shoes' and the upcoming lecture.

You can read the article online here. Here is a picture of what the actual news article looked like. I love the graphics.

Promoting this lecture has taken a lot of time and energy, but it is worth it. It reinforces the career path I would like to take in the future.

I can't wait to see how full the auditorium is Monday night.

pretty please leave a comment...

Today is 'one of those days.'... as was yesterday.

School work is overwhelming, my mind is consumed with the upcoming lecture, I don't know my summer plans, and I feel as if I am stuck in a rut.

I needed to get my mind off things, so I went on a walk to ponder life and take pictures of this beautiful tree.

If anyone has advice for me about life...I would love to hear it.

With that being said, I am challenging you all to leave a comment below. No one ever leaves me comments and I know how many times my blog is viewed a day...

Here are the instructions for those of you who don't know how.

everybody's working for the weekend!

The president of my college wears TOMS.

Dr. J and Denise are doing a lot to help promote Blake Mycoskie's lecture.

They agreed to wear TOMS.

Talk in a promo commercial.

And tweet when they have their TOMS on.

AND ...

Denise is hosting the dinner event in their house before the lecture.

Call me cheesy, but since my freshman year it has been a goal to attend a dinner event in the president's house before I graduate.

Guess I can check that one off my list.

Here are a few pictures from filming on Friday.

Saturday was my friend Danielle's formal for her sorority.

Natalie and I helped her get ready. She came over to our house as a blank canvas and we made her a masterpiece.

The girl is already naturally beautiful but with hair and makeup she looked lovely!

Here is her sweet mom, Lisa and her little sister (future Bearcat) Makayla.

Last night a group of us went to The Outback (it is a bar, not a steakhouse)

It was gorgeous outside, so of course I had to wear a sundress. Looks like I spilt something on myself in this picture...

I found $100 last night.

No joke.

Well, technically my friend Brad and I did. We gave it to the bartender and told him that if anyone claimed it they could have it, if not we would pick it up at the end of the night and donate it to Special Olympics.

Someone claimed it.

They better not be lying.

Enjoy your week! :)

Happy Birthday Jessica!

My baby sister turns 20 today!

Yes, we are only 18 months apart.

I love her so much and can't wait until she visits me next weekend (with Maddie and Lauren)

...the birthday celebrations will continue!

Happy Birthday Jessica! Enjoy your special day.

That's a wrap!

Just finished my group talk show for my broadcast operations class.

Notice the ratio of guys to girls.

7:1

(Our teacher picked our groups)

Yep.

My college has a top of the line TV studio. It has over a half a million dollars of equipment, and they let amateur students like me touch it.

The other night, I hosted a group talk show for a different group. After it was over, I wanted to change my major to broadcasting.

Could you see me taking over Katie Couric's position? I head that she might be leaving and taking over Oprah's time...

25¢ Lemonade

Today after class I jumped in my car and drove past five little munchkins.

They were hollering at cars to stop and buy from their lemonade stand.

I drove past them and then turned back around. I thought about all the times my sisters and I used to sit at the end of our driveway selling lemonade.

We were always unsuccessful. (Probably because we lived in rural Iowa)

I pulled up to their stand and they actually brought the lemonade to my car.

Since it was such great service, I gave them a tip.

I think that God puts occurrences like this in my life to remind me to slow down and appreciate others around me, especially children. Children live in the moment, something I should try to do more often.

Happy Wednesday!

One Day Without Shoes

I did it!

By about 11:00 a.m. my feet were starting to hurt.

Then I thought about how many people in the world walk barefoot daily because they don't own shoes.

My pain suddenly seemed selfish.

I would like to say that I am blessed (which I am), but I think spoiled is the better term.

Shoe count for Angela = 31 pairs at college.

Time to focus more on giving to others rather than always purchasing things for myself.

Enjoy my dirty feet picture.

Chalking it up for one day w/o shoes!

Tomorrow is TOMS Shoes - One Day Without Shoes

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child's life.

TOMS Shoes is a "one for one" movement...remember this post? All across America people will be going shoe-less and I will be one of them.

Tonight we chalked up the sidewalks on campus to promote "One Day without Shoes" and of course the founder of TOMS lecture on campus April 18th at 7:00 p.m.

I can't wait for students to follow the chalked footprints around campus tomorrow.

I've decided that...

I've decided that weekends should include:

Playing hill billy golf with friends after church.

Fishing on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Watching your two friends dance in their dance performance.

Admiring the beautiful sky that God provides.

Hair masks/painting your nails with friends while eating lots of Starburst jelly beans.

Brunch.

Landscaping, so you have a flower bed to fill with flowers.

Spending time with friends that are visiting for the weekend.

Life is busy. Life is short. Life is awesome.
