Colden Pond Plunge

"We all do it because it's a really good cause," said Alan Reed, Northwest's Up ‘Til Dawn fundraising co-chair. "It's a great cause to raise money for children with cancer. While the children are there receiving treatment they don't have to pay a dime. It costs a lot of money to operate the hospital, so anything we can do to help out I think is well worth it."

(Alan is in the picture below passing out the blue t-shirts)

Despite the snow on the ground and cold temperature, three Northwest students and one faculty member jumped into Colden Pond yesterday to raise awareness for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Together they raised over $3,680.00.

By joining Up Til' Dawn at Northwest, you can make a difference in the lives of little kiddos with cancer!

Oh...and if you get involved, it doesn't mean you have to jump in Colden Pond. Students and faculty volunteer to jump.

random thoughts

I have nothing to blog about. Here are a few thoughts running though my head.

I should study for my propaganda & persuasion test.

uhhhh why is it snowing? Maybe school will be cancelled tomorrow. Not likely.

Justin Bieber's "one less lonely girl" song is so stinkin cute. I want a guy to play it for me on an acoustic guitar.

What do I need to get done this weekend?

Spring Break Florida in 23 days.

me + you - ohh just another Justin Bieber song

What am I going to do this summer?

Why do no good guys exist in Maryville?

I really hope school is cancelled tomorrow. Then I wouldn't have to take my test.

Why hasn't my mom called me back?

Blogs are addicting....

It hurts to talk to people who live far away. Bad.

Where is my life going to be next year at this time?

I had a dream last night about Kayne West performing in JCPenney's. What the heck...? April and Stacy were there.

I wish that I could stop analyzing my life.

Back to the whole "it hurts to talk to people who live far away." Skype is seriously one of the best and worst things in this world. So are cell phones.

I'm the bustling, busy Angela Wasko. Read about me here.

ice cream

Sometimes there is nothing better than going to Dairy Queen and treating yourself to an oreo blizzard.

It tastes soooo good and can take away any anxities or pain you are experiencing.

Except the pain you endure to burn off the 600 some calories you just consumed.

So, instead of ice cream...try cool whip. Same consistency, less calories.

Freeze it and then eat it by the spoonfuls.

It is good. It's not DQ, but will satisfy your sweet tooth.

Plus, its what Shawn Johnson does. She was the one who told me about this little trick.

Best $5 spent....

is on the "Cheerful Bouquet" at Hy-Vee.

Seriously. $4.99 for all those pretty flowers.

Bar-gain.

I can't count the number of times I have grabbed this bouquet when I am getting groceries.

It's just so b-e-a-utiful.

On another note...the weather outside is unpredictable.

It says it is 33 degrees, but it looks like it should be 66 degrees.

Mother Nature is a trickster.

I can't wait until it is warm outside so I can plant flowers...maybe even a garden! How fun would that be!

3 amigas

Aren't my friends beautiful? They have gorgeous hair. Someday mine will be that long...hopefully.

This picture was taken at my friend Brady's 21st birthday on Saturday night. Brady's goal was to not drink until he was 21... and he made it! Wish you could have seen his reaction when he took his first sip of beer...

Priceless.

He hated it.

Natalie (the girl on the far right) turns 21 this Sunday. We are celebrating Saturday night.
The birthdays keep on rollin...

Seek ye first..

It's going to be a great week because...

My fortune cookie had an inspirational message.

My parents visited me this weekend and spoiled me.

My to-do list is getting smaller and smaller as the afternoon goes on.

My roommate turns 21 and we are CELEBRATING!

My countdown for spring break has offically begun...27 days.

My SAC lecture (
Andrew Jenks) for next Monday (2/28) already has over 195 tickets picked up, which means I don't have to do a lot of last minute promos.

and because I am happy, healthy, and thankful for a Heavenly Father who always provides.

This Bible verse has been popping up in my life lately and holding true.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. - Matthew 6:33

Basically...seek God and seek to spend eternity with Him. If you do this, you will find happiness and everything else in life will fall into place.

I hope you are as excited for this week as I am!

you can find me...

in your mailbox...

I was really excited and humbled last fall when asked if I would be willing to be on a postcard that would be sent out to prospective students.

I know its not a big deal...but it was neat to send it to my grandma and parents without them knowing about it.

My grandma said she had to look at it twice before she understood that it was me.

If there was anyone I wish I could send this to, it would be my Papa Charlie and Auntie Violet. If it weren't for them, college would have looked a whole lot different for me.

ma & pa

Text from my momma at 7:18 a.m.

"We plan to come sat get a room at holiday inn bear cat rate :) "

Folks, those exact words made my day.

I am so excited.

I haven't seen my parents since December 30th.

My schedule is so busy and doesn't allow me to go home on the weekends, so I have been begging them to come visit. They finally agreed.

Yay! I love my family.

don't forget to...

smell the flowers...

On days like today when my mind is going a thousand different directions, the simple things bring me the biggest smile.

Including admiring my roommate's beautiful flowers from her boyfriend.

Aren't they gorgeous?

Bright yellow.

Just like the sun that is shining.

64 degrees on Thursday? I'll take it.

valentine decorations

Our Valentine decorations have been up for ... oh ... probably a month now.

Love to decorate our house.

Natalie and I worked on these decorations one Sunday afternoon. Between both of our craft drawers we had almost everything we needed. The only thing we bought was a package of coffee filters for 96 cents.

Can you guess what we used them for?

Off to church! Happy Sunday!

Everyone...I would like you to meet Vick

Vick is an eighty something year old who I volunteer with at The Ministry Center.

He is precious.

I didn't know how many people need help in my own community until I volunteered last semester at The Ministry Center.

Sometimes it is hard to drag my booty to The Ministry Center to work on Friday afternoon after a lonnnnng week. Then I get there and realize that giving up two hours of my time gives me the greatest joy of my week.

Volunteering makes me appreciative everything that I have. It puts everything into a different perspective.

The cherry on top of volunteering is Vick. He is as cute as a button. He loves to tease me and tell me that cookies are fat-free. Vick's job is to take the carts loaded up with groceries to the client's cars. And when I say it is Vick's job, I mean it.

He does not want your help. He can do it himself.

I think it is so neat that he has such pride in helping people out at such an old age.

After he packs all the groceries into the client's car he says...

"Now you take care, and may God bless you."

Have a great weekend!
Go find a volunteer opportunity in your own community. If Vick can still volunteer, you can too! :)

money mu$eum

For my advanced advertising class, we are creating an advertising campaign for our client, The Money Museum, conveniently located inside The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Yesterday, we took a class field trip to KC to see what we will be promoting. We got a tour of the museum and also a tour of the bank.

The museum has fun, interactive exhibits for children (or adults) to partake in, including sticking your head inside of a $100,000 bill.

This class is intense, I walk out with my mind blown away. I love it.

and then I went to the Superbowl!

I had the privilege to go to the Superbowl this year in Dallas, Texas! Whoop!
My cousin, Kari, works for a company that is hired by the NFL. Her company provides the security and guest services for the Superbowl.

If I had to describe my experience in three words I would say...

1. Incredible
2. Lively
3. Unforgettable

Despite the nasty weather, my aunt from Champaign, IL was the first to arrive at the airport. Twenty minutes later, I arrived and another twenty minutes later my aunt from Sioux Falls, SD arrived.

We called it an 'act of God' that we were all able to make it to Dallas and within a one hour time frame. Ann's plane had been cancelled and so she went to another airport and caught a different flight, my flight was delayed, and so was Debs.

But..we all made it! We were greeted by my cousin, Kari. That night we drove by the stadium. It was lit up and HUGE!
I didn't expect it to be so cold in Texas, but it was...Deb even had to scrape ice off of Kari's car.

The next day, before we began helping Kari out, we ran to Wal-Mart to grab some souvenirs. Wal-Mart didn't have much of a selection, but we got to take a picture in front of the stadium. Check out all the media. This picture doesn't even do justice to the endless amount...
When we got back from Wally, Kari had a project for us. We had to create labels defining what company the security guards worked.
Saturday morning we were up early to help check in the supervisors for a training session. Here we are all dressed in our 'S.A.F.E Management' gear. After we checked the supervisors in, we went to the NFL Accreditation Center to do some labeling. (This was a big deal that we got to back there apparently. Few people are allowed access to this place.)
Superbowl Day: Woke up at 2:30 AM. We had to start checking in thousands of people for their shifts at 4:30 AM. And when I say thousands, I am not joking. Each person had a credential that they had to pick up from the NFL center, along with their uniform, and shift assignment. After everyone was checked in we headed to the stadium.

Words can not even describe how big Dallas Cowboys Stadium is. We were 'floaters' meaning that if someone needed our help, we stepped in. I stood on the private suite floor. While I was standing there, John Travolta, walked right by me followed by the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. I don't really follow football, but at one point I was standing next to Bart Starr...a famous football player for the Packers...???

Here is the stadium before the crowd moved in. Before the game, I also ushered people to their seats. After they were all seated, I stood in the entrance way and watched the game and the halftime show.

The halftime show was A-mazing! Black Eyed Peas and Usher...plus, Christina Aguilera sang the National Anthem. How much better can it get?

While I was climbing up and down the stairs to take people to their seats, an old man grabbed my attention. He introduced himself and told me that I would be getting a work out in if I kept climbing the stairs at the pace I was going at. He was 82 years old, from Indiana, named AJ. Sitting next to him was his son. I asked AJ if he was excited for the game. His reply...

"I am very excited. I am here to make memories with my son. I flew down so we could spend time together."

He went on about how he had been looking forward to this for a long time and couldn't believe his dream was actually taking place. I was seriously choked up and told him that he was going to make me cry. Every time I would climb up and down the stairs he would look at me with this big huge grin.

Not only did I see an elderly man and his son at the Superbowl, but I also saw lots of young dads with their young sons. What a great memory to create...

It was the experience of a lifetime to go to the Superbowl. I made lots of great memories with my cousin and aunts.

Memories I will not forget.

good luck!

Two of my favorite Hawkeyes are going to be dancing for 24 hours straight starting tomorrow night to help raise money for University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

Jessica participated last year and loved it. She showed me this video over Christmas break and I choked up. Grab your Kleenex before watching.

I seriously want to start this at Northwest.

Best of luck Jessica and Maddie! Have fun dancin! Wish I could join you!

snow day #3

Mission accomplished.

Rosalind and I cleared the snow off our front and back sidewalks like it was our job.

20 minutes tops.
This is supposed to be our 'warrior' picture for braving the 'tundra.'

The 'tundra' felt nice. I forgot what fresh air was.

Danielle and Amanda trekked over to our house and we played an INTENSE game of Guesstures. Here are a few of our actions shots.

I should upload the videos of Amanda. Priceless.

I have my suitcase packed and boarding pass in my purse. I take a test at 9:35 AM tomorrow and then I'm heading to Dallas.

Packers or Steelers?

Catch ya'll later! :)

snow day #2

Woke up and made myself a cup of hot chocolate. I added some heart marsh mellows to celebrate 'the month of love.'

It is so cold here. The wind just blows and blows. No point of going outside.
I whipped up a batch of homemade sugar cookies and frosting. A few of our friends were able to venture out of their homes and have dinner with us. After dinner, we decorated the sugar cookies and then played scattergories.
Praying that the weather clears up. I have a flight to catch on Thursday.
