sunday

One of my favorite things to do on Sundays is take my Sunday afternoon nap.

I plop down on the couch, turn on HGTV, and allow myself to drift away.

I love it.

I definitely needed a nap today. Last night some friends and I went out and came back to my place after. We ordered pizza and stayed up until 3 AM chit chatting. I have always been told that after you are out of college, you really don't remember the classes you took or the papers who wrote, but rather the memories you have with your friends.
Happy Sunday! If you haven't already taken a nap today, I highly recommend to do so.

SAC Comedian

Student Activities Council...aka SAC is a student lead organization that brings different events to campus throughout the whole school year.

Free events. You need to go.

Every Thursday, SAC, puts on a late night event. They range from black light bingo, spa night, movie night at our movie theatre here in town, bowling and comedians.

This Thursday,
Kira Soltanovich, a stand up comedian was our entertainment.

Hilarious.

Earlier that morning, her transportation from KC to Maryville fell through.

No fear, Abby and I came to the rescue and drove down to the Kansas City Airport to pick her up. We couldn't leave Maryville though without stopping at Sonic and getting a little caffeine fix.
She had us laughing so hard the whole drive back and during the show I was crying.

Anyone can join
SAC. It is a great organization to get involved in your first year at college. You can be involved as much or a little as you would like.

Hope you have a great weekend!

(if you didn't already catch on, this is one of my blog posts for the NW Admissons page)

football stats

I have decided to brush up on my football stats...(since I'm working at the Superbowl ...) This is what I know so far...

Andrew Luck, Stanford quarterback, is one of the best QB's in the nation. He could have been drafted after this season to the NFL, but wanted to finish his degree. (He is also REALLY good looking)

NFL = National Football League

When a player makes a touchdown, it is six points. If they kick it and make it in between the goal posts you can add another point. 6 + 1 = 7

The Packers and Steelers are the two teams playing in the Superbowl.

Not much, huh?

I know lots about the advertisements that run during the Superbowl and how expensive they are. I studied that stuff for a whole two weeks.

According to my cousin, Kari, here is what I will be doing the day before the game:
Saturday- Helping me with Game Day briefings. This means there will be two ‘classes’ one from 9-12 and one from 3:30-6:30. I will utilize you as my check in team, meaning we will have to go from 730AM-930ish and 2-4ish. We will sign in and scan in all the supervisors as they arrive, and hand out binders with their Game Day information. In between, I will probably have you helping at the office or coming up with some last minute Game Day items.

Excited to leave for Dallas next Thursday!

Green & White

The campus tour.

I believe it is an essential part of the college selection process.

As a student ambassador at Northwest, I give campus tours.

There are 3 main reasons why I love my job...

1. I am constantly meeting new families and students.
2. I get to be outside and not behind a desk.
3. I get to show you what I love, Northwest Missouri State University.

This past Saturday was Green & White Visit Day. This is a day when a lot of families come and visit campus. At Green & White Visit Day you are...
Greeted by college students who guide you around campus...

Take a picture with our mascot, Bobby Bearcat...

Ask the student panel lots of questions...

and of course, go on a campus tour!

Want to schedule a campus visit? Click Here.

B-E-A-R...

you reply....

C-A-T-S!

paid to blog?

My supervisor from my student ambassador job asked me if I would be willing to blog once a week about my life at college for the admissions page...and get paid for it!

My reply...

Yes, of COURSE!

You can see my blogs here --->Student Blogs

and you can see the awesome people I work with here --->Northwest Ambassadors

Whatever I post on that blog will also be posted on this blog.

Less work for me.
Go Bearcats!

white stuff everywhere

It took four girls, three shovels, and one broom to get Abby and Rosalind's cars out of the snow.

As you can see, we got A LOT of snow. I think 8 inches. Unfortunately, the plow came by and pushed all of the snow around their cars. We had to dig them out. We were successful and quite proud of our accomplishment.
Happy Sunday!

bubble pizza

mmmmmmmm...I made some ever so tasty bubble pizza with my friends, Monica and Carolyn, last night. It was simple and delish.

Good friends. Good food. Good conversation.

Bubble Pizza is so easy...

3 tubes buttermilk biscuits
1 can pizza sauce
1 1/2 cups cheese
Toppings of your choice.

Cut the biscuits into quarters and place on bottom of pan. Pour sauce and sprinkle cheese. Put on toppings. (I save a handful of biscuits and place on top of sauce, cheese, and toppings.)

Bake at 400 for 20 mins. Sprinkle with cheese and bake for 5-10 mins longer. Let stand 5 mins.

Enjoy!

the dark side...

My first Molly's Bar experience of my college career took place last night with this girl.
Her name is Amanda and she is always up for a good time.

That is what I love about her. Her free spirit and willingness to try just about anything...
and her sense of humor...she can make anyone laugh.

She is going to be a teacher. She is going to be the 'homeroom' teacher everyone wants. Guaranteed.

Look at her, not even at the bar and she is already making a show.

Gosh I have so many awesome friends.

Working tomorrow from 8 AM - 2 PM. Thought it would be best if I stayed in tonight and caught up on a few things. (ohhh boy I sound like my mother :) love ya momma! :)

Goo Goo Dolls

And your 2011 NW Missouri Spring Concert is...

The Goo Goo Dolls!

If you're a student at NW, you should be really excited because you get to see great entertainment for only $7.

If you're in show choir at NW, you are probably really upset.

Let me be the first to say that I am in charge of the LECTURES, not the CONCERTS.

The Good Goo Dolls concert is scheduled the same day as the Celebration Show Choir performance.

The Show Choir is mad. They think no one will come to their performance now (I doubt that).... our show choir is pretty darn good.

Anyways, to make a long story short there has been so much DRAMA (I'm talking about vicious Facebook comments) over this announcement. I understand where the show choir is coming from, but people who are filled with that much hate towards SAC scare me.

My little sister Jessica is coming to the concert as well as her two friends, Maddie and Lauren! (Even if the concert is a few months away, I'm already excited for their visit)

ten pages down...

Almost done with my ten page paper. Yes, you read that correctly. Ten pages. One week to work on it. My brain is almost fried. It is due tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

I have the schedule of a freshman with the course load of a senior. I go all day long. This must be preparation for the real world.

I did take a break from working on my paper to have lunch with Danielle. She lives on campus this semester and has a meal plan. The sweetie treated me to lunch at the nicest restaurant on the Northwest Missouri State University Campus, JW's!

We enjoyed her favorite, grilled cheese and fries AND....

s'mores!
(Just like the ones from the campfire..as stated on the menu)

The s'mores are a new addition to the menu and they were delicious!

Thinking of my friend, Ryan. One of his best friends from high school committed suicide last night. It is instances like this that make you step back from the "noise" in life. You realize how fragile

and

precious

and

important

every individual is.

Life

I am missing so many things right now. Particularly friends...I didn't realize until my friend Ashley Hillier came up to visit this weekend how much I miss her (and so many others) constant presence in my life.

Ashley and I lived on the same floor freshman year. Our friendship really developed when we were both selected to be a part of the ambassador program. Ashley is one of those girls who can make anyone feel comfortable in any situation. She is beautiful both inside and out. We always used to go to mass together. We would sit in church and scope out any cute Catholic boys. Whenever we talk about guys, the conversation usually contains the words, "he is Catholic" or "he is not Catholic." She transferred to University of Central Missouri last fall.

Mariah was the first person I met my freshman year. I still remember the day like it was yesterday. My parents had just said their good-byes to me. Our floor was going to eat dinner together in Bearcat Food Court. I didn't want to go, but had to, so I walked my teary eyed, red face out to the 5th floor lobby. Mariah was sitting on the arm of the couch with her hair in a ponytail. I don't remember who said what first, but we instantly hit it off. While we were eating a girl sitting next to us said, "Are you girls rushing?" We looked at each other, laughed and replied no. We enjoyed our chicken strips and fries while she was munching on a salad.

There is no way I would have made it through my freshman year if God did not put Mariah in my life. She was my rock when I was homesick. There is something about her personality that relaxes me and puts me at ease. Mariah transferred last fall to William Woods University.
(This was my first picture taken at college)

I'm missing these people and so many others. I feel as if some of the people who are my closest friends and know me the best live the furthest away. I know that some of you are reading this, and you know how much you mean to me. So, lets set up a Skype date!

"In life God does not give you the people you want. He gives you the people you need; to teach you, to hurt you, to love you, to make you laugh...to make you exactly the person you should be."

another one turns 21

One of the best parts of my junior year so far is...BIRTHDAYS! everyone is turning 21...

My friend, Ashley, joined the 21 club over Christmas break. We finally celebrated last night by going out to eat Mexican and then coming back to my house for cake and gifts followed by an outing to the bar.
The girls Ashley invited to her party!

My two sweet friends - Melanie and Natalie. Don't know what I would do without them.

Ashley is a quiet and reserved girl. We made a rule that everytime she said 'thank you' last night she had to take a sip of wine. The sips added up and by the end of the night she was dancing away!

God has given me some of the best friends in the world. Each one is unique, and for that I am thankful.

Happy Birthday, Ashley! Love you, can't wait to make more memories this semester!

shopping trip

Rusty Chandelier Antique Store. Panda Express. Sephora. Bath & Body Works. Rue21. Culvers. TJ Maxx. Target.

I had such a fun shopping trip with my sweet roommate, Natalie.

We laughed, got lost in St. Joe, pigged out on ice cream, spent countless hours in TJ Maxx where we looked at EVERYTHING and smelt every candle.

TJ
had a TON of cute stuff. Our hands were full, so Natalie decided we needed a cart. We found some good bargains and a few things that were ridiculous such as this tacky belt/fanny pack I am modeling for you.
(Please ignore my messy hair...)

Quote of the night in Target:
Random guy: Do you ladies have kids?
Us: (Laughing) ...NO
Random guy: Oh...I need some baby Orajel.

Maybe you had to be there.

organization makes me...

H-A- double P - Y!

I truly believe that organization is the key to success.
This week, I have been a little off track because I don't have a 'routine' yet.

I hung these clipboards up at the beginning of the school year. One way to keep me sane.

One of my New Year's resolutions was to 're-organize' everything I have. My intention was to minimize my "stuff." I have a whole bag ready for Goodwill.

How are you doing on your New Year's resolution?

Everyone in this town must have decided on the same resolution: loose weight. The fitness center has been PACKED, can't wait until the end of January when it dies down....

break time.

My Wednesday night should look like this picture, but instead it looks like this one....

I am being studious. I had to break out my non prescription reader glasses because I have soooo much to read.

Break time is over. Back to work.

snow, snow, snow

You know you have good neighbors when....
You wake up to find that your sidewalks are completely cleared off.

(This picture was taken at 11 AM...they were out shoveling at 7:30 AM)

At first, I didn't know who it was, but after a second glance, I realized it was my neighbors; the Mormon missionary boys from Utah and Idaho.

Nicest thing someone has done for me this whole year :)

I decided to pay them back by making them banana cranberry bread. I found this recipe on a food blog and they looked delicious.....mine turned out nasty. Natalie almost choked on her bite...
Just got done whipping up some brownies...hopefully they turn out better.

This town doesn't know how to handle snow. They only plow the roads going North and South...

Thank you Dad for buying me a car with four-wheel drive, putting a scoop shovel in the trunk, de-icer, ice-scraper, extra mittens, etc. - You are the best! xoxo

makin snow angels

Goal: Enjoy each day, remembering that it is a gift from God. Make memories.

The beautiful white snow that has been falling all day was calling our names. Natalie, Rosalind, and I decided to go outside and play. Who cares how old we are...we can still play in the snow!

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift.

Make snow angels while you can.

then we'll go ice skating!

“First we’ll make snow angels for two hours, then we’ll go ice skating, then we’ll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookie dough as fast as we can, and then we’ll snuggle.” -Elf
Okay, well I didn't do all of that, but I did go ice skating last night. I can't even describe how much fun I had! Plus, it was a two for one. Having fun and working out at the same time.
Brent and I were the amateurs, but quickly caught on.

This cute little guy kept falling and Jason volunteered to help him. I did too, but he didn't want help from a girl. Someday he will.... :)

Me, Brent, Jason, and Trinity

This little cutie pie tried his hardest to stay up on both feet. After a few laps, he gave up and decided to plop down in the MIDDLE of the ice rink and EAT the slush. It was adorable.

No falls for this girl at the ice skating rink....until we got to Coldstone Ice Cream.
I was so excited to eat ice cream and it was cold outside, so I started to run inside. I COMPLETELY missed the curb that was in front of me. I wiped it. Hard. Luckily, the only people who saw me fall were the boys I was with. I'm fine, just several bruises. Haha.

Tomorrow starts my last semester of college! Crazy? All good things must come to an end...and then even better things follow!

NW Video

Remember my blog post during finals week? I stated that I was studying in the library when the campus photographer came and filmed me? Well...lucky for me I am only visible for about 3 seconds. The video is probably a lot more fun for myself to watch then it will be for you. I am surprised how many people I know in this video!

You can check it out here... You can see me at around 3:33.
Today I am getting all of my class material ready for Monday! Picking up my books at 1:00.

What I did today...

Hmmm...lets see.

Today I took down the Christmas decorations, vacuumed, laundry, cleaned the bathroom, laid around and creeped on facebook, booked a ticket to Dallas, got a call from my friend April, and went to Wal-Mart.

Oh Wal-Mart. That store makes me chuckle.

Let me describe my trip to you.

First, I stood in line for 10 minutes to return something. The cashier hands me a gift card with the amount I was credited. The gift card has a "Christmas cat" on it. What the heck? I hate cats. I then proceeded to the pharmacy counter to pick up a prescription. As I was pushing my cart the lady ahead of me was not paying attention to where she was going and ran into the toothpaste that was on sale for $2 (She acted like no one saw her) While waiting in line for my prescription, I heard someone yell "They have batman toothbrushes!" I then proceeded to pick up orange juice. I looked down at my phone and looked up to an employee pushing an entire cart of Maxi pads. Her facial expression was screaming embarrassment. Time to leave. Went to check out and used my sweet new Wal-Mart gift card with a cat on it.

I found this a few weeks ago off another blog and thought it was hilarious. Click on it and it should enlarge. See how many of these you can account for.

Funny, right? Not nice, but true.

Washington DC

Loved my trip to Washington, D.C! It reaffirmed how much I enjoy the city. (This blog post is the abbreviated version of everything we did)

Our take off from Omaha on Friday was SCARY. It had been freezing rain and snowing throughout the day. As we sped off the icy runway, we were zig zagging. I looked over at Danielle and asked if she needed the barf bag. She was as pale as a ghost. After we got in the air, we were fine. We arrived to DC earlier than expected and were greeted by my friend, Jordan. The subway runs right through Reagan National, so we jumped on and headed to his place to get ready.

New Years Eve was AMAZING. We went to the Adams Morgan neighborhood (which is the bar district of DC) We didn't actually go to the bars, but hung out at my friend Kyle's apartment. A little bit before midnight, we went to his rooftop balcony and watched as the city celebrated the new year. At midnight, every taxi cab blew their horn, people in the streets screamed, and fireworks went off in three different places of the city. Crazy!

Saturday: We went to the National Archives, Washington Monument, White House and National Christmas Tree, Arlington National Cemetery, and Old Town Alexandria. It was absolutely beautiful this day. We had light jackets, but took them off throughout the day because we got warm.
Yummy old-fashioned ice cream in Old Town.
Sunday: Church, Georgetown University, Georgetown, Georgetown Cupcakes, 2 Amy's Pizza, IKEA, drinks with my former boss, Molly.
I have been waiting for this pizza for a long time. It was delicious!
Monday: American University Law School visit for Danielle followed by lunch with Keppler Speakers for me (I tried bison for lunch) Holocaust Museum, night view tour of the monuments and memorials. After night view we went to dinner at "The Diner" and all got pancakes. Then we met up with my former boss, Freeman, and got drinks at a bar and watched the VT/Stanford game.
I'm pretty amazed with this picture I took.

Tuesday: Capitol Tour, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, lunch in Chinatown with Jordan, Kyle, and Catharine, went up in the Washington Monument, Frozen-Yo, shopping, and then headed back to pack and head to the airport.

I took no pictures on Tuesday...what was I thinking???
I forgot how much you have to walk in DC. I am so exhausted! We didn't stop. We tackled DC.

I miss the diversity, the fun restaurants, the fashion, the fast pace, the men in business suits, the metro, my list could go on and on.

As our plane took off last night a tear rolled down my face because I didn't want to leave, but then I thought... I will be back.

I know I will be back.
