Lesson Learned

Our bikes were purchased early Saturday afternoon and by Saturday evening we already needed assistance from the Santa Monica Police Department.
One of the bike locks would not open for us.
After 20 minutes of trying, we began to ask strangers if they could help.
No luck. No one could get the lock to open.
(Yes, we were using the correct combination)
So...we called the police.
We couldn't help but laugh as he pulled up to us in his cop car with a big clipper sitting next to him in the front seat.
Then he told us his squad probably clips 20 bike locks a day.
After he had freed our bikes we went to the closest bike store and purchased new locks.
(The kind that have a key)

Later that night a few of us walked down to Santa Monica Pier.
We stood at the end of Route 66 and...
rode the Ferris wheel!
So proud of Blaire who conquered her fear and rode it with us.
Melissa, another intern, who lives about a 1/2 mile from us was able to join.
And my favorite photo from the night would be the one I took on my cell phone.

Style Your Sole

Summer Intern Class 2011

Today at work we had a "Style Your Sole" party.  We were handed a blank pair of TOMS and decorating materials.
We all went to town and ended up with some really neat designs.
The style your sole parties are usually hosted on campuses and in stores such as Neiman Marcus and Nordstroms.
"Style Your Sole" is way to express yourself through your shoes, and of course give a pair of shoes to a child in need.
During orientation today told we filled out HR forms, met with previous interns who are now on staff, and heard from different mangers in various departments.
For dinner we had a BBQ with people who work at headquarters.
Great food, great company, great time.

After work, Liz, Blaire and myself headed home to chill for a bit.
Then we grabbed a bottle of wine, three plastic cups (classy, we know) and headed down to the beach to celebrate this next chapter in our lives.
(With our newly decorated shoes on of course)

I'm exhausted right now, but trying to stay up late so I can get off Missouri time.
I keep waking up at 5:00 a.m. ready to go...
Need to change that ASAP.
Happy Weekend!

First day at TOMS Internship

 Meet the roommates.
From left to right - me, Liz, Blaire, and Katie.
We all decided to live together as soon as we found out we would be interning at TOMS.
Liz drove us to work today because we haven't purchased bikes yet.
Because we are good little interns, we decided to leave a half hour early.
We live 2.5 miles from work.
Traffic in this city is terrible.
Parking in this city is terrible.
It was 8:57 a.m. and we had no other choice but to park illegally.
Our intention was to move the car before they started ticketing at noon.
We were late to move it.
$68 fine.
Another intern, Jarrod, purchased a bike yesterday.
On his way to work he got a flat tire.
He was late.
But our intern coordinator is such a sweetie and was totally understanding of the situation.
To start the day off we had coffee followed by orientation.
We heard from various people who work at headquarters and then met with our managers.
The more I hear about this organization the more I love it.
The people are amazing.
So sincere and kind.
For dinner we all went out for Mexican food.
After dinner we helped Jarrod find his bike that he chained to a post.
Everyone thought it would have been stolen because it had been there for more than 8 hours.
We drove by and there it sat.  Flat tire and all.

Successful first day.
Can't wait to see what this summer holds.
Definitely working with some talented college students and recent graduates from across the country.

Hello California...

I arrived in California yesterday morning and was greeted by two TOMS interns, Katie and Melissa.
Katie (roommate) has a car and graciously volunteered to pick me up from the airport.
We came to the apartment where I met my two other roommates, Liz and Blaire.
Instantly clicked with all three.
Made a trip to Target to get groceries and a few other things.
We almost bought out the store.
Unpacked.
Walked a half mile to the beach.
We all went to bed with butterflies in our tummies.
Woke up on Missouri time and started my first day extra early.

Goodbye Missouri...

TOMS just announced their next chapter for the One for One Movement today.
Watch the video. It is brilliant.

I keep thinking...am I seriously going to go work for this company?
Off to Omaha tonight and then my plane for California leaves early Wednesday morning.

Wish me luck!
Goodbye Missouri, I will seriously miss you.

Royals vs. Twins Game

I went to my first Royals game Saturday night in KC with Haley, Rosalind, and Ryan.
It was extremely warm the first half of the game.
We baked in the sun but still enjoyed the atmosphere.
Our "tailgate" before consisted of turkey sandwiches, chips, and grapes. We were not very hungry because of the heat.  By the end of the game we were starving and had to grab some fast food.
Yes, Rosalind and I dressed alike.
No, we did not plan it.
I came down the stairs and we were wearing the exact same outfit.
As we walked out the door we both grabbed our yellow purses and got a chuckle.

Even though the Royals lost it was still a great night.
As we were leaving a group of people in Minnesota Twins shirts asked if I would take a picture for them.
I asked them if they were from MN.
They replied no and told me they were from Iowa.
I asked what part.
Storm Lake.
Yep, out of all the people at the game there I was standing next to someone who lives less than an hour away from my hometown.
They even know my sister's boyfriend's family.
Small world.

Happy 55th Birthday to my Daddy!

Lets celebrate with an old school photo.

Happy Birthday to the best daddy in the world!
You believe in me and have taught me the importance of a strong work ethic.
(and to always have a sense of humor)

Can't imagine my life without you.
You're the best and I love you!

Love,
Your Angie Pangie Cotton Candy
