Mother's Day Cards & My Sweet Grandma

Now that Mother's Day has passed, I can show you the cards I made.  The top one was for my sweet Grandma Alvena and the bottom one was for my wonderful mom.

If I could, I would hand make a card for every person I know on their special occasions.

I think they are personal and meaningful.

Due to time constraints, only very special people in my life get hand made cards currently.

One of whom is my Grandma Alvena.

My grandma Alvena is the most selfless person I know.
Always caring for others in her thoughts and actions.
I hope that I can posses that quality someday.

God gave me such amazing parents and grandparents.

I also hope that when I am her age my skin is as smooth as hers.
You may think I am crazy, but I have never seen anyone with such healthy skin!

My Mom, My Best Friend

She is more than just my mom.

She is my #1 fan.

She is my pick-me-upper.

She is my cheerleader.

She is my encourager.

She is my strength.

She is my role model.

She is my best friend.

She encourages me to believe in my dreams.

Happy Mother's Day to the woman I look up to.

If I turn out half as good as you -

I will have succeeded.

DIY Project

My creative juices began flowing yesterday when I saw this frame at a garage sale for $5.

I walked past it thinking I couldn't use it.

Then I had an idea later that evening.

I went back to the garage sale today and picked up the frame.

Everything was half off.

I ran to Wal-Mart to grab some spray paint and picture wire and began working on my project.

I hung it up on the wall and began filling it with...

Necklaces and headbands.

It was easy, quick, and cheap.

Frame = $2.50

Spray paint = $3.97

Picture wire = $1.97

Grand Total = $8.44

I love it because it organizes my accessories, but it also is a wall decoration.

Oh...the frame had the orginal price tag on it - $99.

I got a bargain.

Update

Well...the house is still a mess. But the floor in the nook is almost done.

The kitchen floor won't be done until the 24th.

Did I mention it's a mess?

I needed to get out of the house yesterday so I drove to St. Joseph to see my friend Melanie before she leaves to study abroad in Costa Rica.

Since it was Cinco de Mayo we decided to have Mexican for lunch. We browsed the mall for a bit and I made her take photos with me in the photo booth.

I just love those things.

Then we went and hung out at her parents big beautiful house in the historic district.

It was beautiful.

It's Friday!

House Work

Remember the whole "I don't have anything to do for a week."

False.

This morning at 8 a.m. we (Natalie, and my landlord (her mom) began ripping up the carpet in our kitchen and nook.

Yes. We had carpet in our kitchen.

It was disgusting.

This is what it looked like after we ripped up the carpet...

Bad.

Covered in glue and padding. Some water damage.

No way to save the wood floor.

We spent the afternoon looking at different floor options around town.

After we got back we hauled the old carpet outside and were greeted by our neighbors, the two Mormon Missionary boys from Idaho and Utah.

They volunteered to help us scrape up the padding stuck on the floor in the nook.

This area was still salvageable. (It is a different type of wood and in much better shape)

We all took a corner and within an hour we had most of the padding up.

The boys knew what they were doing...and they have more upper body strength.

The carpenter is coming tomorrow morning to measure for linoleum in the kitchen.

Stay tuned to see the progress...

Weekend

Headed to Iowa City on Saturday to stay with my sisters Jessica and Teresa. I was planning on leaving Thursday, but since I had a case of strep throat I thought it be best if I waited.

On Saturday night, Teresa and I went bar hopping in Iowa City to celebrate a friend's bachelorette party.

I only took a few pictures and unfortunately this one is bad quality.

Sunday morning we all headed to a diner to grab breakfast before church.

Take a look at this fried cinnamon roll.
Delicious.

We spent the rest of the afternoon laying around and of course that evening we watched President Obama speak about the death of Osama Bin Laden.

I headed back to Maryville this afternoon and here I sit content on my couch.

One week with nothing to do.

I am SO excited.
